How to Create the Viral Drop Effect Nail Trend
The waterdrop/raindrop effect nail trend has been taking over social media, and the best part is that it’s actually super easy to recreate once you know the right technique. In this tutorial, I’ll show you exactly how I create this glossy dimensional effect using our Poke Toke Gel.
Products Used
- Gel color: Redflag
- Poke Toke Gel
- Top Coat
Step 1: Apply Your Base Color
Start by applying your favorite gel color and cure fully. For this specific nail design, I’ll be using Redflag.
Step 2: Remove the Inhibition Layer
Once your color is fully cured, wipe away the inhibition layer using cleanser or alcohol. This step is important because it helps the Poke Toke Gel apply evenly.
Step 3: Apply Poke Toke Gel
Apply a layer of Poke Toke Gel over the nail and cure for 60 seconds. Because the gel is non-wipe, it creates the perfect surface for the drop effect without needing extra layers later.
Step 4: Create the Drop Effect
Apply an extremely thin and even layer of top coat. The key here is making sure the layer is very thin and slightly self-leveled before creating the drops.
Wait about 30–60 seconds to allow the top coat to spread naturally. As it settles, the drop effect will begin forming on its own.
Step 5: Cure the Drops
Once you’re happy with how the drops look, cure the nail for 60 seconds to lock the effect in place.
Final Result
And that’s it! Since the Poke Toke Gel is non-wipe, there’s no need to apply a second top coat layer afterward. Your drop effect will stay glossy and dimensional while keeping the details crisp.
